UNIT 3: IMPORTANT HEALTH PLAN UPDATE - ACTION REQUIRED FOR ANTHEM 200 MEMBERS
UPE met with Merced County on October 7, 2024, to discuss the termination of the Anthem 200 health plan. The county has decided to eliminate this plan effective January 1, 2025. Employees currently enrolled in the Anthem 200 plan must select a new plan by October 31, 2024. If no action is taken, employees will automatically be transferred to the Anthem 1500 plan. Switching from the Anthem 200 plan to any of the four available plans—Anthem 500, Anthem 1500, Anthem HDHP Plan with H.S.A., or Anthem HDHP Plan without H.S.A.—could result in significant cost savings, ranging from $26.43 to $280.32 per bi-weekly pay period based on the 2024 rates and coverage type (e.g., employee plus dependents).
UPE expressed concerns about ensuring members have the necessary information and support to choose the best plan for their needs. In response, the county assured us they will provide additional outreach and resources, including lunch seminars, to educate employees on the benefits and cost savings of switching plans. The county has also confirmed that resources will be available to assist any members who have questions or need guidance during this transition. If you have any questions or concerns about the changes or need assistance with selecting a new plan, please contact the Merced County Benefits Team.
