Masks in the Workplace

As we all work through this unprecedented time of COVID-19, we want to remind our members that safe working conditions are the top priority for UPE. UPE supports the adherence to safety guidelines issued by state and local officials, including the requirement of masks in the workplace. Wearing a mask in the workplace is a contributing factor to ensure the safety of all our members, and those around us. Masks should be worn as often as possible, especially when walking through hallways and common areas. If wearing a mask is not feasible, please work with your department on an alternative. If you need additional assistance, please contact your business agent. In addition to masks, remember to:

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.

  • Maintain social distancing at all times.

  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve, then throw the tissue in the trash.

  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

  • Disinfect frequently touched surfaces and objects daily.

  • Stay home when you are sick, except to obtain medical care.

Together, we will get through this challenging time. If you need a washable mask, please contact your business agent to arrange a delivery.
