DHS: Public Health Division Time Off Policy Update

On January 19th, 2023, UPE met with the DHS management and Labor Relations regarding the above policy.

UPE compared the policy to the proposed updated policy. The proposed changes included updating verbiage, reformatting, and adding language from other county policies to sections of the time off policy. UPE asked additional clarifying questions to protect our members and requested that the following adjustments be made:

  • If our staff are required to turn in holiday vacation time off requests by a specific date, then supervisors must either deny or approve the holiday vacation requests within two weeks of submission.

  • To specify a timeline for employees to have their flextime option reviewed after a year. Referring only to those who had documented performance issues more than three times.

  • Ensured that all language follows or references our unit contracts.

Please be sure to review the time off policy changes once the updated policy is released.

Thank you to the participants for your advocacy,

Sylvia Garcia and May Melby
