Your UPE bargaining unit met with DHA management on August 31, 2023, to discuss the inefficiency of the CalWORKs Service Center. Since its launch, workers have had multiple concerns regarding the overall dysfunction of the Service Center.
However, we recently discovered that the Department had begun discussions to pause the Service Center rotation. When we confronted management about this, they confirmed that they are, in fact, having conversations about stopping the rotation as early as October 17, 2023.
The Department claims it may be necessary due to holiday time off, CalSAWS migration, and a lack of DTech resources for Cradle Point users. Meeting dates to negotiate this potential change are being arranged as soon as possible.
This information caused us to redirect our focus so that we can consider how this “pause” impacts our membership overall.
UPE and the 008 Board would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to SME Miranda Lawrence, Diane Magasis, and Michelle Moyer for adding their invaluable perspective and experiences on the failure of the CalWORKs Intake Service Center Model.
We want to thank governing board members Patrick Hunter and Stephanie McCall.
