DHA: CalWORKs Intake Service Center

UPE
Greetings, Union Brothers and Sisters. On February 7, 2025, your 008 Bargaining Team met with the department regarding the continued issues related to the CalWORKs Intake Service Center.

As is typical, the department recently sent out a PowerPoint packet that was intended to “refresh” our members in the intake function with Welfare-to-Work (WTW) registration process.  UPE pointed out that a printed PowerPoint was completely inadequate for those members who had not been expected to evaluate CalWORKs cases for WTW exemptions.

The County agreed and stated they will make sure supervisors give the training in person as originally instructed.  UPE also proposed, again, to reduce the amount of assigned intakes and gave many reasons as to why the current expectation is completely inadequate to perform their duties properly.

Due to the inequitable assignment of intakes, UPE pushed to have management communicate with DTECH to resolve what they are claiming are technical issues with LIMS.

They also committed to our proposal, insisting intakes be assigned for the day first thing at 8:00 am.  They stated they also need additional time due to DTECH reprioritization assignments.  More to come – please stay tuned.

UPE would like to thank our subject matter expert, Brenda Rhea, and 008 governing board members Patrick Hunter, Stephanie McCall, Nichole Gorman, Michelle Moyer, and Olivia Brown, for their advocacy and participation.

TOGETHER WE ARE STRONG!
