Greetings, union sisters and brothers. On August 28, 2023, your 005/008 meet and confer team met again with DHA management regarding the impact of the CalSAWS transition on working conditions for line staff.
Your team pointed out the problems people are experiencing with the web-based training and expressed to management the deep apprehension of line staff about the adequacy of CalSAWS training.
The department agreed with the union’s proposal to allow line staff to be surveyed about their ILT training experience (PLEASE RESPOND WHEN YOU RECEIVE THE UNION’S QUESTIONNAIRE!).
We also brought up our proposal again for reduced workload in the first days after CalSAWS go-live, and we still consider the department’s proposed limited reduction to be very inadequate. The department did agree that line staff will be “held harmless” for six (6) months after go-live for performance problems that stem from the transition to CalSAWS. Our next meeting with department management is scheduled for September 14, 2023.
Stay tuned!
Thank you to the UPE board members for their advocacy,
Jennifer Avalo, Chris Jenkins and James Starr
