Dear UPE Brothers and Sisters, on January 23, 2025, UPE met with the Department of Agriculture, Weights and Measures regarding the Attendance Policy proposal. During the meet and confer, it was discussed that employees are still expected to arrive on time for their approved work schedules. Notably, if a member is less than six minutes late, this will not need to be marked on their timesheet. However, it can still be considered tardy. If a member faces circumstances beyond their control that cause late arrival, they should communicate this with their supervisor to explain the situation. Vacation time may be used in lieu of missed time due to tardiness. Deviation from the scheduled work time due to tardiness may be allowed under certain circumstances. Still, it would require prior approval, which may allow for flex time or other remedy to make up for tardiness.
Regarding unplanned sick leave, an absence request form must be submitted to your supervisor on the day you return to work. For vacation requests, employees are encouraged to submit them as early as possible. Approval will depend on the department's business needs. Additionally, if any employees anticipate the need to work overtime, they must receive approval from their supervisor in advance.
UPE would like to thank 005 Governing Board Members Jennifer Avalo, Sylvia Garcia, and Dawn Richardson for their advocacy and participation.
