DCFAS / CPS: Red Team

On September 11, 2024, your UPE team reconvened the meet and confer with the County regarding the above. This will only affect the intake unit in CPS.

The department started the meeting by explaining exactly who the RED Team is comprised of and what its function would be. The RED Team will be comprised of Community Partners, Cultural Brokers, Public Health Nurses (PHNs), and Supervisors from both Emergency Response and Permanency. Future plans may include Substance Use Treatment, Behavioral Health, and Domestic Violence partners. The purpose of the RED Team is to look at referrals that have been deemed as a ten (10) day and those that have been evaluated out to reduce unnecessary interventions and team on culturally responsive responses, connection to resources and visits with families. This will take place in five (5) zip codes where families who have been determined to be disproportionately affected by CPS live.

The meetings will take place on Tuesdays and Thursdays in person, which means that, unfortunately, the day and swing shift Intake Social Workers will have to change their telework days if one of the aforementioned days is your telework day. You will have adequate notice as per the contract. If one of your referrals just so happens to get selected for review, as selection is random, and the RED Team decides that it could have been handled differently, there will be no disciplinary action taken, EVER! CPS will, however, keep stats on the number of referrals whose dispositions are changed.

The projected start date is slated for November 1st, but if the department is not ready, it will be postponed to January 2025.

Thank you, Sarah Singleton and Monica Baker-Allston for your advocacy!
