On November 6, 2024, UPE and Sacramento Superior Court met and conferred over the Court’s proposed changes to the Deputy Clerk IV (DC IV) class specifications. The changes are based on the analysis conducted by Cooperative Personnel Services (CPS) on behalf of the Court. The Court is not proposing any significant changes to the class specs. In fact, the class study hammers home a point UPE continues to make to the Court: DC IVs do more than supervisors. The class study clarifies that DC IVs are the primary workers responsible for training employees, developing training materials and job procedures, answering employee questions, and resolving complex work problems, all while handling their own caseload. UPE proposed some changes to the class specs to improve clarity and better match how DC IVs perform certain duties. The Court is considering UPE’s proposals.
Once the parties resolve the class specifications, CPS will perform a compensation study that will compare the DC IV’s total compensation with the total compensation of equivalent classifications at the following courts: Alameda; Contra Costa; Fresno; Orange; Placer; Riverside; San Bernardino; San Diego; San Francisco; San Joaquin; Santa Clara; and Solano. UPE is also meeting with the Court regarding new class specifications for the Courtroom Clerk, Account Clerk, Court Services Coordinator, Court Attendant, and Paralegal classifications. UPE will update members after every meeting as this process progresses.
